The first couple of weeks we devoted much of our time towards creating our classroom rules & procedures...the end result was our very own GATES Classroom Constitution (found below), which all of our students and myself signed. I have the right to: *LEARN at WMS * HEAR and be HEARD at WMS * be RESPECTED at WMS * be SAFE at school and on the way TO and FROM WMS * PRIVACY and to my OWN personal space It is my responsibility: * to attend all classes and work cooperatively within the class * to listen while others are speaking * to treat students and staff respectfully * not tease, threaten or hurt anyone physically and/or emotionally at school or on the way to and from school * to respect school property and the personal property of others and to respect others’ personal space * to abide by WMS motto: C.A.T.S. (Carry out Directions, Accept Responsibility, Think Before Acting, Show Kindness) * to abide by WMS motto: W.E.S.T. (Welcoming, Engaged, Safe, Trustworthy) * to follow our Classroom Motto: T.E.A.M.(Together Everyone Achieves More) Consequences: • 1st offense: warning (verbal, look, tap on desk, touch, etc.) • 2nd offense: Re-teach/reflect inappropriate behavior; 10 minutes Lunch Bunch • 3rd offense: 100 word essay, parent/guardian must sign & return to school; Lunch Bunch entire Lunch • 4th Offense: Parent conference/contact of Detention 15 minutes after school • 5th Offense: Referral • Any type of violence or theft…will result in an automatic REFERRAL to the Office!
**Students are aware that depending on the situation, the teacher and/or adult can go from 1st offense to 5th offense depending on the severity of the situation.
